Former Parish Council Chairman Dies

It is with great sadness that we have to announce that the former Chairman, John Smith died suddenly on Wednesday 9th May. He had lived with his wife Mary in Thorpe Satchville for 60 years, had been a member of the Parish Council for the last 24 years and Chairman for 19 years. He will be greatly missed and our thoughts are with Mary and their family. His funeral will be held at St. Michael's Church, Thorpe Satchville on Friday 18th may at 1.30 pm.

John Smith retires after 24 years

After 24 consecutive years as a council member – the last 19 as
Chairman and missing only three meetings in all that time, John Smith
confirmed that he will not stand for re-election to the Twyford and
Thorpe Satchville Parish Council in May. He has taken this decision
at the age of 82 with great regret due to health problems.

Vice Chairman, David Angrave, presenting Mr. Smith with an engraved
glass water jug on behalf of the members of the council and the
clerk, commended the hard work and dedicated service to the community
that this record represented.

Amid congratulations and reminiscences, toasts were drunk to John and
his wife Mary.

Also present were County Councillor Joe Orson, Borough Councillor
Mark Barnes and former Parish Councillor Andy Holland.
